Sarahは政治家であり、ジャーナリストで、The Cambridge Intelligencerの編集者であったベンジャミン・フラワー(Benjamin Flower)と妻エライザ・フラワー(Eliza Flower)の娘。

Sarahは女優になることを望んでいたが、神は別の計画を持っておられた。彼女の舞台女優としての経歴(1837年にLady Mcbethに出演した)は、健康の弱さのために中断され、執筆するようになった。
