LeliaはJohn T. E.とOlivia E. Naylorの娘。子どもの頃はオハイオ州マルタとマコーネルズビルで暮らしていた。1881年にCharles Hammond Morrisと結婚。Leliaはメソジスト教会で活躍し、しばしばキャンプミーティング(オールド・キャンプ・サイカー、オハイオ州マウント・ヴァーノン、オハイオ州セブリングのセブリング・キャンプなど)に参加した。1980年代に歌を書きはじめ、1,000曲以上のゴスペルソングを書いた。1913年に、彼女が視力を失い始めたので、息子は彼女が作曲を続けることができるようにと8.5mの長さの手すり付きの巨大な黒板を作った。1928年に彼女と夫は、オハイオ州オーバーンの、娘であるMrs. Frances Lunkの家に引っ越した。
