労働者の息子であったタンズール(Tans'ur)の名は、教区の登録簿にはタンザー(Tanzer)と記されている。約30歳で彼は、エプソム近郊のエウェルに自分の家を建て、そこで「Melody of the Heart」を出版した。彼はバーンズ、ケンブリッジ、スタンフォード、英国のボストン、そしてレスターを含む多くの場所で讃美歌を教えた。その後セント・ネオツに落ち着いて書店を営んだ。彼は、100ほどの詩篇歌、讃美歌、アンセム、テ・デウムなどを書いた。
